Previous Update March 27, 2021

Last Updated June 15, 2021

These rules apply to all that visit, or participate as guests, writers, members, commentators, or subscribers.

Keeping our Incredible Community a Safe Space

We get it. Life and the very strong differing of opinion can really get to a person. While we can appreciate that there are some very impassioned positions or heated respectful discourses, our desire is to keep Otala a safe and sacred space for all that choose to read, write, create or comment. This means that in all of your communications and content, you must adhere to guidelines detailed here in Otola Community Guidelines.

Otola supports the free and open exchange of thoughts, ideas, and experiences. We consider it an honor to host and facilitate meaningful stories, articles, insights, and conversations from people all around the world and to protect this virtual platform and those that choose to share here.

Abuse and Hateful Conduct

You may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone or encourage others to do so. This will be considered abusive behavior that attempts to harass, intimidate, or silence the voices that decide to share. Accounts that choose to do so may be permanently suspended.

Promoting violence against, threatening, or harassing anyone on the basis of the categories of race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, disease, or additional categories that we may extend to be included in these terms.

There is no place on Otola for organizations or individuals that promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people based on race, ethnicity, caste, personal differences, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.

Copyright, trademark, defamation, right of publicity, and impersonation

You agree not to post or upload content that is protected by copyright, trademark, trade secret, right of publicity or other proprietary right without the express permission of the owner of such copyright, trademark, trade secret, right of publicity or other proprietary right.

You understand and agree that the burden of determining that any content you post or upload that is not protected by copyright, trademark, trade secret, right of publicity or other proprietary right, rests with you. You shall be solely liable for any damage resulting from any infringement of copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, rights of publicity or other proprietary rights or any other harm resulting from such a submission.

Otola does not allow the following and will suspend or ban accounts that do so:

  • Defamation (slander/libel) is to make false statements about someone that damages a person’s reputation.

  • The “right of publicity” is using someone else’s name, persona, or image for marketing or advertising purposes without their permission.
